If you are interested in sustainable buildings made of natural materials, this tour is for you. In this Sustainable House Tour, you will see the Aanandaa house, and learn about rammed earth, lime plasters, 6 different roofing systems, rainwater harvesting systems, grey water management and more!

You will spend about two hours with Manisha in her home, and learn about the challenges, the solutions, the 'watch outs' and the 'must-dos' of a sustainable architecture.

A Glimpse of the Sustainable House

A home built consciously and conscientiously, keeping in mind human needs and nature's limits.
Designed to breathe with its surroundings, the home brings together natural materials, passive cooling, and vernacular craftsmanship in a way that feels both grounded and enduring.
Conceived as a living extension of the land itself, the home blends rammed earth, stone, lime, and traditional roofing systems to create a space that feels deeply rooted in nature yet quietly contemporary.

How We Built
This Home

The house at Aanandaa is primarily made of rammed earth, using the soil excavated from the land itself

Use of shallow Rohtak domes for roofs eliminated the use of steel and concrete in the roof thereby keeping the house cooler in the summer

A filler slab on the kitchen roof reduced the use of concrete, while adding an aesthetic feature and allowing the placement of the water tank on the roof

Mirror polished lime plasters provided the water proof surfaces needed in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchen

Simple metal pipe and stone roofs were both cost effective and sustainable

Toxic surface finishes like synthetic paints were completely substituted by etxtured lime plaster finishes where required

Meet Manisha,
Your Guide

Manisha believes that built structures should work with nature rather than against it. With no formal training in architecture, she learned by building her own home from the ground up - experimenting with rammed earth walls, lime plasters, natural cooling systems, rainwater harvesting, insulation, roofing and sustainable materials. Every challenge became a lesson, and every solution was tested through lived experience. On this tour, she shares the practical insights, mistakes and discoveries that shaped the home.
